Shozo Somekawa
I received the prize of excellence in the postage stamp design contest of Japan in 1998.
The subject of the contest was the "50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights".
I used the chinese character 人.
This chinese character means "human being".
I made many works using this character.

Concept of the work with 人
The world is currently in chaos. War, famine, fraud, murder, etc.
Where does humanity go? Destruction? Is there no salvation?
Do we pray to God?
Or we humans solve these problems ourselves? Do we have a purpose?
My work represents people in chaos, and I expressed how humanity could be rescued.
Is salvation in our hands or in the hands of God? I do not know about that.
But if we are not willing to solve the problem ourselves,
we cannot receive God's grace.
I do believe it.
